Abstract

This paper intends to highlight the impacts of Arabic poetry to understand the meaning of Qur’?n and understanding its various dimensions as contributed by Im?m Ibn al-Jawz? citing verses of poetry in Tafs?r Z?d al-Mas?r. As greater the understanding of Arabic linguistic, poetry, words and phrases prevailing in that particular culture greater will be the comprehension of Qur’?nic meaning. Poetry within the ethical domain has been venerated by Islam and declared as wisdom. In this study, we may estimate analytically how Ibn al-Jawz? elaborate various directions and guidance in the light of Qur’?nic verses with reference to the poetry citation. This discussion arrived at the conclusion that in Tafs?r Z?d al-Mas?r scope of meanings of words and their implications have been extended along with a unique exegetical approach. Ibn al-Jawz? presented exclusive methodology to infer Qur’?nic wisdom contemplating upon the poetry an important linguistic source considering rhetorical and stylistic remarks and literary embellishment what an aesthetic glimpse of Qur’?nic Scripture (na?).
